Biography

(1950–)

Internationally acclaimed sculptor Antony Gormley has enjoyed major success exhibiting all over the world. His largely figurative sculptures of the human body take on many forms, and can be found in numerous public sites and private collections, one of the most famous being the Angel of the North in Tyne and Wear. The New Art Centre was one of the first to commission Gormley in 1989 when he produced the emotive Mountain and Sea. In 2001 the New Art Centre's award-winning gallery was home to an exhibition of Gormley's 1998 Insider figures, and continues to enjoy a strong and reciprocal relationship with the artist.
Recent exhibtions include Blind Light at the Hayward Gallery in 2007 and Firmament at White Cube in March 2008.
