Biography

(1953–1996)

In 2006 the New Art Centre became home to Helen Chadwick's Piss Flowers. These iconic works were made by the artist and her partner David Notarius in 1991, by literally pissing into the snow and taking casts from the cavities left behind. Made in bronze, painted white, they resemble flowers opening to the sun. They have been exhibited all over the world including the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Museum Folkwang, Essen; Serpentine Gallery, London and Indianapolis Museum of Art. Chadwick is considered to be one of the founders of contemporary British art.
