Biography

(1949-)

Professor John Gibbons; artist, Curator and Head of Sculpture at Winchester School of Art. Gibbons' recent body of work is made from Stainless Steel and PVC. His work stems from his own personal experiences and reflects a strong sense of human involvement. This involvement is expressed on the surfaces of his sculpture. The surfaces of the works have been manipulated in such a way as to evoke spontaneous light patterns.

Gibbons has contributed to many exhibitions in Winchester, curating 'Sculpture and the Divine' at Winchester Cathedral in 2000 and also 'Sculpture for Winchester' in 1998. Recently he has contributed to the Year of Sculpture series curating the exhibition 'Light' which was also held at the Cathedral.

Recent exhibitions include Light, Winchester Cathedral and Endless Sky / And Other Stories, Flowers Central, London. Gibbons' work can be seen in collections around Europe and America.
