Biography
(1961–)
Jonathan Clarke has exhibited extensively in the UK and has undertaken numerous private and public commissions including Tesco, Ely Cathedral and Norwich Castle Museum. Works can be found in many private collections in the UK, Europe and the USA as well as at the Britten-Pears Foundations and the National Maritime Museum, Falmouth.
Clarke's works are unique and cast in aluminum from polystyrene, a method he learned from his father, sculptor Geoffrey Clarke. The immediacy and directness of this technique is reflected in the works' solidity and robust construction. Clarke's powerful and compelling sculptures are generally inclined towards abstraction and are often informed by political and social issues.
