An elephant decorated with moons is one of the artist’s wonderful emblems for the oneness of the universe… the serenity and kindness which informs his work distinguishes it immediately.” – Giles Auty.

Born in Delhi, India in 1950, Sadiq studied painting at Delhi College of Art before transferring to the sculpture department. He quickly received critical acclaim, and in 1982 he moved to London with a British Council scholarship at the Slade School of Art. Here, Sadiq regularly explored the British Museum and its Buddhist and Hindu collections. He also became very interested in African sculpture and the symbolism of animal imagery.

With its green patina overlaid with half-moons and stars, Cosmic Elephant conjures themes of celestial infinity, as well as a primordial memory of mythic beings.
