The New Art Centre is remembering today the life and work of Bridget McCrum (1934 - 2026). McCrum trained as a painter at Farnham College of Art in the 1950s, turning to sculpture later in her career.

Subsequent to putting her career on hold to raise three daughters with her husband, Robert, she came to find a passion for sculpture in her forties. McCrum began to work primarily in stone during the 1980s, travelling to many countries including Somalia, Sudan and Syria. She worked on archaeological surveys which expanded her fascination with small objects that would continue throughout her life.

Her work is included in many international collections including: Minnesota Landscape Arboretum; Rolls Royce Aero Engines, Bristol; Lismore Castle, Co Cork; HSBC, Malta; and the Golden Door Foundation, San Diego. Her work is held in private collections in the USA, Canada, the Middle and Far East, Europe and the UK.
