New in the Park Jenifer Lloyd Jones
The New Art Centre recently sited four new pots by Jenifer Lloyd Jones in the courtyard at Roche Court. Morvah, Kernock, Rame and Trevean are hand built using a coarse textured stoneware clay, and take their titles from the Cornish landscape, where the artist lives and works.
Lloyd Jones achieves these particularly dark tones with a variety of metal oxides, which enhance the surface texture. All works are then high fired. Each pot features unique geometric patterns, which the artist uses to emphasise the form of the vessel. By scoring the designs as opposed to painting them on, Lloyd Jones makes the designs integral to the composition; each pattern is designed in accordance with the pot to best accentuate the individual form.
