The New Art Centre is celebrating the life and work of Michael Hischer, who died on 14th June 2026. Hischer was a German sculptor who made beautifully engineered and meditative kinetic works. WV 466 is sited in the garden at Roche Court, and exhibits an enquiring harmony with it's surrounding landscape. The sharp, industrial form combined with bright, processed colour is contravened, as its quiet movement reflects the patterns of nature.

Made from painted aluminium, Hischer’s works are accurately weighted and finely balanced. Moving elements are attached centrally to axles by groove ball bearings, and the slightest breeze will set their wings in motion, allowing the mind to focus on the way they draw in space the passing of time.

Michael Hischer studied sculpture in Hannover and at the University of the Arts in Berlin. In 1991 he received scholarships from the Karl Hofer Society in Berlin and the Werk-Stadt-Schloss in Wolfsburg. Since then he exhibited widely in Germany and Europe, and his work can be found in public and private collections.
