I work predominantly on European Hardwoods- ash, oak and cherry- and American walnut. All of the timber I use is renewable and sustainably sourced, mostly from the UK. I firmly believe the most ecologically sound approach is to source materials locally, and to design with longevity in mind.'
- Katie Walker

Katie Walker designs furniture that is imbued with a timeless, iconic aesthetic. By distinctively combining form and function, she creates furniture that is user-friendly and ergonomic; whilst retaining a minimalist, sculptural quality that Katie hopes ‘can be enjoyed and handed down the generations.’ Consequently, Walker prioritises using sustainable materials and labour practices, to ensure processes that minimise their environmental impact.

When asked about her inspiration, the artist explained that 'The reason behind the Hoop chair was to create a comfortable lounge chair by ‘dropping’ a plywood seat shell into a supporting wood hoop. Extending the method used to create the seat shells of the Ribbon Rocking Chairs, laminating simple sheets of birch plywood over a mould, to create the much more extreme form needed for a lounge chair. Exploring how extreme a shape could be formed from flat sheet that was still comfortable to sit in and sculpturally interesting. It became all about this interplay between the geometry of the shell, the hoop and the framework and has taken many attempts to hone.' (Katie Walker)
