Nuffield College unveils new fountain by Edmund de Waal

On Monday 18th May, Nuffield College, Oxford, celebrated the completion of wind, water, stone, a new stone and water sculpture by Edmund de Waal in their Fellows' Garden, made possible through the generosity of Emeritus Professor Richard Mayou. The beautiful tsukubai in black Kilkenny limestone with occlusions of white oyster and coral fossils sits near the black limestone bench work, water, wind, stone from which it can be admired. An inscription by the distinguished letter cutter Gary Breeze of Octavio Paz's poem 'Wind, Water, Stone' - which inspired de Waal's work - adds context.

wind, water, stone is particularly important as a link between a graduate college founded on social science and to act as a bridge between the academic and non-academic world as an example of the best of today's contemporary art. The works add to the interesting collection already acquired by Nuffield College.
